Mix the shortening, flour and baking powder well with a pastry blender or fork. Add boiling water. Press pastry with hands into a 9-inch pie plate. Do not pierce. Use unbaked or bake at 450° until brown. Makes 2 shells in smaller pans. Variation: Chocolate pastry: use 1 c. flour and 1/2 c. cocoa powder with 3 Tbsp. sugar instead of 1 1/2 c. flour. Total prep time: 15 minutes. |
