Granny’s English Trifle
(A Taste of Britain)
Slices of Pound cake, Angel food cake or Lady Fingers
Strawberry jam or your favorite preserve
Vanilla pudding (not instant) or Bird’s custard
Milk
1 can crushed pineapple or fruit salad
1 large Jell-O
˝ pint whipping cream or cool whip
Shredded coconut, chopped nuts, or maraschino cherries
Spread jam on cake or Lady Fingers and arrange them in a straight-sided glass bowl. Cake or Lady Fingers may be treated to a dollop of sherry or brandy. Add the fruit over the layers of cake. Make pudding or custard according to directions on package. Cool, and then pour over fruit. Just before serving spread whipped cream or Cool Whip over top of trifle. Sprinkle with coconut or nuts (Optional).
Different combinations of fruit and Jell-O can be used.
Watching calories. Use fruit canned in natural juices. Use non-fat milk in making pudding and use sugar free Jell-O and pudding.
