Mom’s Apple Cobbler

½ C margarine                                                              1 t. cinnamon

2 C water                                                                     2 C sugar

1 ½ C self-rising flour                                       ½ C shortening

1/3 C milk                                                                    2 C finely chopped apples

Heat oven to 350 degrees – melt margarine in a 9x13x2 pan or dish.  In a saucepan, heat sugar and water until sugar melts.  Cut shortening into flour until particles are crumbly - Add milk and stir only until dough leaves the side of the bowl.  Turn onto lightly floured board – knead until smooth.  Roll dough into a large rectangle about ¼ inch thick.  Sprinkle cinnamon over apples, then spread apples evenly over dough.  Roll up dough like a jellyroll.  Dampen edge of dough with a little water and seal.  Slice dough in 16 slices, about ½ inch thick.  Place in pan with melted margarine.  Pour sugar syrup carefully around rolls. (It looks like too much liquid, but it will be absorbed.  Bake for 55-60 minutes
